The view from Whitney Portal Road: Owens Lake and the Alabama Hills

June 19, 2012June 19, 2012 • Maven • Add your comment

Earlier this spring while working on my as-yet-to-be-finished Owens Lake dust control project, I traveled up the Whitney Portal Road out of Lone Pine to get some shots overlooking the lake. (Lone Pine is located in eastern California at the base of Mount Whitney.)

Agriculture in California’s Coachella Valley

June 4, 2012June 13, 2016 • Maven • 4 Comments

‘Measure, measure, measure’ seems to be the mantra for the Coachella Valley Water District, who are rightfully proud of their water efficiency and management and eager to show the difference in farming methods that differentiate them from their neighbors to the south in the Imperial Valley.  I’ve toured through the area twice on tours; it’s…

I arrived in Monterey around 3:30 or so, having a convention to attend the next day.  I headed straight out to the coast.

San Luis Reservoir and the O’Niell Forebay

May 27, 2012June 8, 2012 • Maven • Add your comment

I’ve a long list of photoblog posts to do – on agriculture, the Salton Sea, Keeler, and a trip to Parkfield to view more of the San Andreas Fault … look for those in the upcoming weeks.  I’m going to continue working on the backlog with these pictures around the San Luis Reservoir joint complex…

Boca Dam and reservoir art

May 27, 2012May 27, 2012 • Maven • 1 Comment

Union Station, Los Angeles: Last of the Great Railway Stations

May 25, 2012May 26, 2012 • Maven • Add your comment

I have been doing a lot of traveling lately, and I’m way behind on posting my photographs, but yesterday I drove through the oil fields of Kern County on Highway 33, also known as the Petroleum Highway, and I really wanted to share these pictures first. This picture is from when we had driven through…

The Los Angeles Aqueduct Intake

May 6, 2012May 8, 2012 • Maven • 2 Comments

Sorry I haven’t posted for awhile. It’s not for lack of photos – I’m actually several trips behind and I embark on another journey on Tuesday to Monterey, sure to be another treasure trove of photos. I’ve just been so very busy and there are other things I should be doing right now, but I’m…

More from Owens Lake

April 16, 2012November 27, 2014 • Maven • Add your comment

I’m up in the Eastern Sierra today, finishing up photography for my upcoming presentation on the Owens Lake dust control project. Yesterday was about checking out the birds at the lake; I had the pleasure of being taken on a tour by Michael Prather of the Eastern Sierra Audubon Society. (You can find pictures from…
